Recommendation For Finding 18" Wheels Denver Area

I want to find some used 18" wheels for my 2002 4.6is for a winter wheel set. Anyone know any places to check in the Denver or Colorado Springs areas? I suspect this staggered set up with Conti Extreme Contact "all season" tires would be like ice skates.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm.... Well, I live in S.C... We hardly see snow here, so I'm not sure what it's like up North... However, if I had the Estroil blue 4.6is that I am drooling over getting, I wouldn't put snow tires on it... I would put it to sleep in the garage... and drive the ummmmm... dare I say it?! Ford 4x4...

I actually found a set of stock non-staggered 18" 5-spokes the other day at the pull it yard... All are in pretty decent shape... Tires for them will run me almost $650, but...

Now, to actually answer your question.... Unfortunately, I don't know... Sorry...

Thanks - Yeah, I can't keep it as a garage queen. The people I know that own these where they have several months of snow-packed roads all run them squared with snow tires. That's my plan. If I have to run one winter with the current set up, I will, but there are a lot of X5's in Denver, so I suspect there will be a supply of used wheels. It's just a big market, and I thought maybe someone on here would know of some good places to start the search.

Post a "Wanted" ad on Craigslist. I have had good luck doing this. Lots of people are sitting on things they don't need, but don't get around to advertising.

Worth a shot.

I picked up a set of used oem 18s plus tires for 350 shipped from ebay.. not show stoppers, but not bad shape either.

Am I right that for the 4.6is I need an 18X8 rim with 5x120 lugs? There are a lot of things out there. Am I best off getting Rims from another X5, or will any rim with those specs work?

I was looking at tire rack for ideas, but of course without calling them, their wheel calculator wants to sell me nothing smaller than 20" when I put in 4.6is. If I say that I have a 4.4i, it brings up 18's and 19's. would those be the same?

Sorry, pretty ignorant about rims.

No apologies necessary! The only bad question is the one you don't ask and need the answer!

The diameter of the wheel is necessary when the vehicle has big brakes... our 4.6is' have big brakes... so you need to get rims that will clear those big calipers... Mine has the stock 20's... I'm not certain if dropping to 19's or 18's will rub... I could test that when the 4.6is gets home with my better half... I, oddly enough, have rims in the garage ranging from stock 17' thru to the 20's... I have a few X5's...

EDIT::: Okay, I pulled the 20's in favor for some YPIY 18's... They are 18X8, non-staggered set... While they did actually clear the caliper, I doubt any wheel weights put on the outside inner edge would also clear... I think the best bet is to stay with 19's or larger... I'll get the pictures up asap...

The first is the stock 20"... The next two are 18"... That odd shadow between the caliper and rim is the sticker residue left over from old wheel weights... I don't have a tire on this rim yet...

Well, that's interesting. I had read that you could put 18" wheels on the 4.6is, but that does look close.

The sticker on my door shows an 18 X 8 as one of the possible wheels for the vehicle. Now I wonder what the deal is. I want to get as small a wheel as possible for the winter set in order to save money on tires.

There is a nice set of 19 X 9's on Craigslist right now, but my door tag says nothing about 19's except for a 5" wide spare. I wonder if a 19X9 would clear the brakes.
