Window Switch - Rear Window Drops on it's Own

Rear Passenger won't DROP if I engage Child Lockout.

If I release child lockout, the RP Window will just drop on it's own. Sometimes, it will do 2 inches, then another 3 inches, etc. In testing it this morning, with child lockout engaged already, the minute I release child lockout, it dropped halfway and then all the way down.

Methink's just replacing the Main Window Switch is the cure for all ailments.
Would you concur

And of course, yesterdays Gremlins are gone today. We'll see if the wifey reports it acts up later on this afternoon or not. Sorta reached a breaking point dumping money into the X but given it's age, I suppose that comes with the territory

Just going off memory and it's been so long.....but I believe the SAME window and I replaced the switch 6-8 years ago.

How about swapping switches left to right to see how the problem moves or changes?

As I recall, they pop out with no tools needed. Just fingernails.

OT, but I posted on another thread and I've only been using FCP for the past year or less....

Gotta love the PM. Got them to PM the switch from the lowest OE dealer...

^The PM worked for me too with my last order as well. Took longer than I would have liked but I didn't mind waiting 4 days to save the $100+.

Out of curiosity, do you have to open your driver's door in wet weather very often? I've heard of switches failing due to water ingress. Just a thought.

Unless one lives under a bubble, yeah sure, the door get's open, but I think just long enough to get in or out and the door is closed ;-)

If I cared enough, I would probably d1g through my records to confirm I replaced it at some point midway ownership, as I def. do remember similar symptoms. Can't recall resolution as with signs of aging, things start to get foggy, LOL

The Only weird thing I can say, is I THINK, that it's the very same window the last time around as this time.

If the switch doesn't solve then issue...you may want to do a quick search on BMW window regulators. What you describe (the dropping either quickly or in short increments) is an oft first indication that its failing.

I've only had 2 Reg fail, but that was to the point where it it was obvious...

I dropped the window completely down and up twice via the master switch and it sounded fine. It's just the other symptoms----

Going down 2 inches, then another 4, etc on it's own
Child Lock stops this once you roll the window up, it stays up

Observed taking child lock out
Rolled halfway, paused, rolled all the way down
Rolled it back up via switch
It decided to roll all the way down

Used switch to roll it back up and locked it.
