4.8is diagnostics port

Hi, I am having trouble locating the diagnostics port on my '04 is. The obd2 compartment under the steering wheel is empty, I reached behind the panel thinking maybe the plug is loose somewhere behind there, but couldn't feel anything, (it looks like the trim was taken out at some point, maybe it's jammed somewhere high up behind the panel where I couldn't reach?). I also searched for the 20-pin connector under the hood, and again no luck.

The X5 does not have the 20pin plug. I will remove the kick panel and check if you find it. it's just simples Philips srews.

Ditto...Emory39. Do a bit more investigating behind the lower dash...it's probably loose behind the panel. You won't have a 20 pin DLC in the engine bay...BMW did away with that thing back in 2000. Most models it started with the 9/00 build date (aka 2001 model year)...and 6/00 for the e46.

The Z3 and e38 continued to have the 20 pin engine bay DLC after that date due to them coming near the end of their production run:

The OBD II connector is X19527 in the wiring diagrams (BMW/TIS)

Ok thanks for confirming! I was finding conflicting information about the 20-pin connector...
