Low Fan air question

After the AC is used for a little while (1+ hour) the air coming out the vents is noticeably less no matter what fan speed you select. Although you hear the fan speed increases/decrease with the change the air volume is very very little and doesn't change.

So leave the AC off, open the windows.....After a little while try again and same thing.

Time to change FSU like the e39 you think?

Time to take it in and get it leak tested and recharged.

This is almost certainly under charged AC. What happens is when the AC is low on "Freon", it works too well and will freeze the condensate on the evaporator coils until it blocks the air flow.

If the leak is slow enough you can simply charge the AC.

When it happened to me it was blowing chunks of ice and "powered snow" out the drivers side until it completely iced up. Leave it 25 minutes or so and air flow resumed.

Mine was low a couple years ago. Bought a can with the charging hose at the auto parts store and added Freon. All good after that until this weekend, about two years later, got another can and added more Freon. Back to normal. I figure I have a super slow leak, so I'm not going to chase it just add Freon every couple of years.

Leak seal. If it's internal compressor leak won't help but a fitting it will seal. I've actually seen the sealant work (due to UV dye). If I have to add more than once per two years I pull a vacuum get the old out and recharge with oil and UV dye/sealant

If you have a leak then you need to fix it to restore it to former glory. These X5 have the infamous evap leak that is a slow one but a leak none the less. Have the system charged and leaked tested and take it from there.

Not sure if I can DIY this in my home garage. How do you use Leak seal? You add it to the UV dye?
