My spare is not working as remote so I will be taking apart to reflow the solder and maybe replace the three buttons. You may have a sticking button from your description of the trunk opening was it? However if that button sticks down it will set off the alarm if coded like my wife's car. Her button sticks some times and sets off her alarm randomly.

I've just been advised that a local company can cut andprogram any key. I'll give them a ring first as they seem to be a little cheaper.

The usual problem with somebody cutting a key is they need to swap electronics from the old key for the immobiliser. Either that or the remote functions won't work. I did a lot of research before I cut my keys open to re flow the solder when they wouldn't work as a remote

I read it IS possible to programme new (third party) keys to the car but it requires removal of the GM module and goofing with it. Yikes!!

It's booked in with a key guy, he said he could check to see the signal coming from the key first to see if that's the issue. I'll report back. He was pretty genuine as he said he did t think it was the key.. that was until I told him about me jamming them in the tailgate..

Sweet. Does the new key start the car too?

Im only using the new key.. I did try the old key once and that worked too but that could of been luck as it was working intermittently.

Assuming the broken key still at least manually unlocks the door, you might want to hide it under the car somewhere in case you get locked out.
