Oil Temp Drops When Working Hard
I just had a question. I'm still pretty new to this car, and had the occasion to drive it across the state and back the other day. That means crossing several passes. The steepest is about 9 miles of 6% to 8% grade toping out at near 12,000', and the climb out of Denver gains around 5000' in 40 miles or so.
What I noticed was that when I start pushing the car uphill, after a little while the oil temperature would actually drop from a needle width below 210 degrees to 1/3 or so of the way down the gauge. This car had tons of power, and has no issues with climbing passes in any gear. I usually use sport mode so it can carry some RPM's, and sometimes put it in 3rd gear so it doesn't shift so much. I have never had a car that got COOLER running up passes in summer temperatures with the AC running before. Of course the air gets a bit cooler on the way up, but not enough to make that kind of difference. The water temp stays the same all the time. So, does this thing have an oil cooler that kicks in at some point? Whatever it is, I've never had a vehicle that takes those climbs with so little sweat! it's awesome!

Good day!!
Well, if I had to guess, it would be the fact that the air is indeed cooler and thinner, but the motor is pumping fluids faster than at the lower RPM's... It is working harder, but for the 4.6is, climbing hills is barely breaking a sweat for it... There is an oil cooler that has a thermostat on the N62 motors, but I'm honestly not sure about our 4.6L M62TU... Cheers!!!
