How to open instrument cluster...

Hi, I have "dead" pixels on my instrument cluster. I was wondering if anybody has managed to open it up fully. The article that explains how to fix the "dead" pixels didn't help.
I've read someplace that bad capacitors cause some pixels to go out. Replacing those helps.
The problem is how to get to the circuit board...

Chances are good that BMWNA will cover all or part of the replacement costs of an instrument cluster. There are alot of BMW owners on other forums who also had problems with dead LCD pixels in the instrument cluster. They all report of contacting Leonora Vlaovich ([email protected]) who is the coordinator for BMWNA National Customer Relations.

Here's an example post describing her role in providing assistance to BMW owners: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8325

When I searched her name on google, I found information in various websites dating back to 2003 stating she is the key contact for the dead pixel problem for all BMW models.

Most of the owners are reporting that BMWNA covers parts and labor if under CPO warranty, less deductible. If not under CPO warranty, BMWNA pays for 50% to 100% of parts depending on vehicle mileage, and owner pays for labor which is 1 hour.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Mike
