Power Tailgate wont open

Hi , just wondering if anyone had experienced any issues with the bottom section of the tailgate not operating , the top tailgate works perfectly so I open it up and press the button for the lower tailgate and it fails to operate. The fuses are all good , I have pulled the mechanissm out and it is all free. Appears to be a possible electrical issue . Has anyone had any similiar issues ? Thanks

Good day!

I actually just had this happen to me yesterday by accident... I was working on the brake light issue on the new addition to the family... I got the replacement tail light installed and all the bulbs operational... I closed the lower part, but it didn't catch on both sides... I tried to open it for another attempt, but the button wasn't working... that's when I remembered I latched the top with my screwdriver to turn the lights off in the upper hatch... I released the upper latch, then the lower part worked again...

Your issue may just be a sticking or failed upper latch micro switch... spray some PBlaster in there and see what happens!

Good luck and let us know what you discover please!

Cheers!

If you do use PB Blaster on the microcontact switch, get some contact cleaner to clean off the PB Blaster. PB Blaster leaves an oily film on anything that it comes in contact with, and an oil film will only attract dirt

Help us help you better...you gave no vehicle info and you don't have a signature that indicates your model/model year/build date/etc.

There are two different set-ups for the upper tail gate...the facelift models have SCA (soft close actuator) thus slightly different electronics (e53s built from 10/2003-upward).

Without your vehicles info...you could be given incorrect info...and we wouldn't want that to happen...so please consider creating a signature or giving your model/model year/build date info.
