Radio and Steering Volume Controls Not Working

I just bought a 2003. The volume controls don't increase or decrease the volume. The radio button does turn the head unit on. Is there an indication on the radio head display of the volume level? It does seek radio stations fine,so I know the antenna is connected. Not sure if it's the amplifier or head unit. Any suggestions on diagnosing the problem? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like classic radio amp failure. There's an amp inside the radio, which is located in the trunk under the spare tire.

There's a service on eBay in California that rebuilds the BM53/BM54 radios or there's a guy in the UK that rebuilds also, but you'll have to pay $$ for international shipping.

I had mine done by Carphonics:
