Oil filter cap - FYI
Just thought I’d let everybody know what issue I’ve ran into with 2 brand new caps from the dealer.
Original one got damaged and it was getting harder and harder to unscrew when doing oil changes. Got a new one from the dealer, it would not screw in, but rather catch just one side and mess up the plastic thread. Forced it after 15 min of fighting it and I damaged it. Ok, back to the dealer, maybe a bad batch, got another one, took it slow this time around... same problem. Upon closer inspection, the original one had the first thread smaller than the rest, and that made it screw in just fine. The new one had all the threads equal. I’m like ok what in the world, got my dremel out and sanded out the first 2-3 threads just a little bit. It went in just fine after that. So if anyone runs into the same problem as I did, you know what to do, even though you shouldn’t have to do anything in the first place, it’s a brand new BMW part but hey, rather than argue with the counter guy who doesn’t know what to do with the info you give him, just take the dremel out and you’re on your way
