Tons of work on my X5 this week

I have never had to do this much to any bmw in one week ever. Unless you count swapping trans from auto to manual I did on my 323i. But that actually was less stressful than this week has been with the screwy shipping problems plus ice, snow and 20 degree weather at times.

4 new tires - Still in the mail but should be here tomorrow or tonight.

new windshield - They are coming out tomorrow to install that. Killer tree in driveway. Evil thing I tell you !

thermostat - Will do this weekend, parts here. No more freezing !

all the pulleys on the main belt - Ones rattling and the other doesn't spin free enough. Should fix noises ! Should be here Friday.

Drivers mirror outer housing (all of it) - Tree ate that (see evil tree above). Should be here tomorrow.

Forgot one step. I have to remove the tensioner and drill out the bolt because the allen bolt stripped out when I was putting the belt back on after testing the pulleys before ordering new ones.

can't you get an extractor to get the bolt out cleanly?

The inside is stripped so the bolt has to be replaced. I have a new bolt coming with the new pulleys. I just need to get the old bolt out. I will either drill the head of the bolt off and grind flat spots on it and take it off with a wrench or just pliers if its loose after the head is off and the pulley is removed.

I certainly was not suggesting reusing it, I've had success with this kind of tools (I am certainly not recommending the website) : https://www.buyincoins.com/item/57159.html#.WjDfZEuDPXQ

I had planned on buying a set similar to that and a type that goes over bolt heads. But I don't have time for them to get here with the holidays. Shipping is horrible here right now. The local ups place has had my tires since Monday night and keep taking them off the truck in place of delivering them to get more packages in the truck to meet some stupid quota from what the driver told me tonight.

He is going to load them himself tonight so they are in front of other stuff to make sure I get them tomorrow. Hopefully.

The pulley is screaming at this point at times and I don't want to risk it failing on me completely.

I've had the same issues with deliveries in France but without the weather, just crappy service.

Good luck with your bolt, maybe if you can fit lock grip pliers tightly you can use them. It would probably be the quickest and easy way
