Try disconnecting the negative battery cable from the battery. Then touch the negative cable you took off to the positive cable for a few seconds and then put the negative cable back on the negative post. This will completely discharge power.

Once its reconnected see if the inner or outer door handle works.

Its possible that may do it. I never tried that but the way bmw's handle wrecks it may work. The positive explosive bolt kills power from certain parts of the car in a wreck and its supposed to unlock the double lock from what I remember.

Again its worth a shot before going at the door panel with the door closed.

Find a YouTube video there are plenty of cases of how to get a door open (panel off)

In the old days you'd be able to pull the cable release manually.

I would get the panel off and look up what voltage applied where will unlock the actuator.

If you can hear even a "tick" like the motor is thinking of turning but worn and weak you can possibly use a higher voltage like 18v drill battery to give it a boost and unlock. It will be easier to get the actuator out of you can get the door open.

I have to repair 3 actuators on wife's car I will know exactly where to apply voltage and at least one still "Tries to work" so I'll do the 18v test before I replace the motor.

I will be using the $12 each refurbish method over the $150 each replace method.

Auto locking has taken a toll and wore out 3/4 of wife's actuators at 140,000 mi. Where mine at 160,000 all for are going strong.

I think the auto locking actually keeps them from sticking personally. My 323i has over 400k on it and has auto locked its entire life.

The drivers door doesn't know when you open it at times (its a micro switch in the actuator) so it gets confused on the locking with the remote at times but otherwise all 4 doors work perfectly still with the factory door actuators.

Its the double locking part that fails not the motor. There isn't a motor involved in normally unlocking the door. Its the double lock and the remote locking that use the electrical side.

Hello,
pull out the passengers doormodule.
Disconnect the white connector X1131 from passengers doormodule.
Connect + 12Volt to #12 Blue ( BL 0.75 )
Connect - (Ground) to # 7 Black ( SW 0.75 )
A short conntat is good to bring the doorlock back to normal and you can open the door from inside with 2 pull´s

greetings from BAVARIA

That's super helpful info! Can you tell me which pins will run the lock and the unlock motor? I want to test some used actuators before buying them

I have a battery brain and have tried disconnecting the battery multiple times with no luck. I can try manually disconnecting the negative cable and see if it works (can this be done from under the hood as well?)
