Mike's "Easy" BMW Tools?
I bought This Package "Mike's Easy BMW Tools" including the correct cable and software + instructions from ebay. It includes INPA EDIABAS and some other tools. I wanted to run this on an old XP laptop that I have. To give it the best shot at working I reformatted and re-installed, XP onto the Laptop and installed as per the instructions (to the letter checked and re-checked). The instructions insist that I use "only" COM1 for the serial cable port and that you set this up in Device Manager. Done!!!! INPA does not see the car and protests that the post is not open?
If I install the same package from the same disc onto a WIndows 10 machine. It works? The products is clearly sold as WinXP - WIn10 etc. The cable is jumpered on pins 7 & 8 (I had to do this when I bought it) Why does it work on WIn10 but not on XP? |

The supplier could probably tell you what the problem is in a second.

The only thing I can think is the settings for COM1.
In the windows search type "this PC" right click and choose manage. Go to device manager. With the cable plugged in, go to where it says "ports". Expand the window and right click on your cable. Press properties and then go to port settings. Choose advanced. Change "COM port Number" to COM1 and change latency timer to 1

Hi
I have done this to the letter to no avail. It is pointing at COM 1 which is set with Latency to 1. TX & RX to 2048. No other device is using Com 1. I can see it in device manager when I connect the cable or disconnect the cable. So it knows the cable is there on COM 1. To test this I can use the same cable on COM 1 and connect NavCoder which works just fine. This suggests that it is something in INPA? I have checked the OBD.ini file to ensure it is pointing at COM1 (it is). Then I have tried COM2 etc. Nothing. Very Odd?? |

My XP was fussy too Bruce. Give this thread a look and maybe the XP video will uncover something?

Overboost
Thank you. I followed your link and edited the system32 file. I also removed “comma” from COM1. Now all working. Thank you for your help. Great job. Bruce. |
