Heated Steering wheel

I found a used in good shape steering wheel, it's from a 04 4.8is sport wheel with out the button for heater . I have a 06 4.8is [the wheel looks like shot] with the heater and button.....should I be able to switch it out and heat the new one????

The heating element will not be in the wheel you found so it would probably make more sense to recover the one you have or look for a sport wheel with the heater. I found my heated sport wheel on fleaBay for $80.

Ditto overboost...without the heating "filament" running through the steering wheel...how would it "heat up"?

The info below gives the basic design...regardless of it being a 4 spoke or 3 spoke...the filament will be required for the wheel to heat up when all the other components are present, as well:

well, I returned the new steering wheel. and I order the last heated steering work in north America from BMW , they gave me a great price.............there is only one more in the world and that is in Germany..............so I am going NEW....

I checked the local craigslist and there were 4 complete X5's being parted out with various issues. I couldn't figure out why because I didn't see body damage on any of them and they were selling engines and transmissions. 3 had heated steering wheels and sport seats, had Nav. I'm thinking about the 19" wheels for a summer performance set if I don't make this an offroad vehicle but mine is so damn clean I'm afraid to scratch it.

They probably were all base 4 spoke wheels.

Seems like it would be more cost effective to get your sport heated wheel re-wrapped by Coby wheel or a similar pro. Aren't new wheels from BMW close to $1000?

Also for those that feel that they have missed out, there are still at least two brand new facelift heated sport steering wheels on ebay.
