Ordering Exhaust Mod Parts - Need Info Confirmation

Eisenmann makes the same part number for 3.0 and 4.4 but different for 4.6is.

So the question is, if I were to find a cheap set of mufflers from a 4.8is, would they bolt onto my 4.6is resonator flanges? Or are the flanges on the 4.8is exhaust bigger than on my 4.6is resonator?

Okay fellas, I'm finally getting around to ordering some electric cutouts for big red. Is the above quote correct in that the tubing in front of the resonator on the 4.8is is 2 1/4"? The pic below is from a 4.4i but will illustrate. I am talking about the tubing between the cat and before the resonator.



I am going to have the cutouts installed in front of the resonator and bypassing it to go into the Dinan mufflers... effectively deleting the resonator. Never seen someone do this and I'd love to be the guinea pig. Let me know what you think.

You mean to tell me that Big Red isn't plenty loud enough with the Dinan mufflers? My 4.6is is a beast with the Dinan's especially on a hard acceleration.

great minds think a like.. The way you plan on running the cutouts, wouldnt that be a lot of piping?

I will be running mine at the curves before the muffler..

2 1/4" should be correct.

It's a good volume sometimes. But others I want that ridiculous muscle sounding blow the doors off loud that I used to have in my Mustang that had a spintech side exhaust.

Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, it will be a decent amount of piping 4-5ft per side I would guess. I'm not too worried about clearances with an SUV.

So you are cutting out your mufflers then with the cutouts. That's how most do it. I just want to hear what the Dinan mufflers sound like without the resonator in the system. Plus, my OCD requires that the exhaust be exiting the tail pipes. Especially when it's cold outside and there is steam.

^^ true. But clearance wasn't even on my mind. thats a lot of additional piping, that I would rather steer clear of, but thats me..

If you mean by cutting out my mufflers, you mean, removing them all together, thats a no. I still want my quiet ride.. I plan on putting my cutouts right at the bend before the mufflers. At one point I wanted to get an idea of how the 4.8 would sound with the cutouts, did some research and found a guy on Youtube that did it.. his placement is exactly where I want it. its clean and subtle install and maintains the mufflers.

btw which brand are you going with? QTP or just ebay brand?

Going with Badlandz brand. I've seen the QTP and liked them, but Badlandz has a 5 year warranty and a good reputation on the muscle car forums. They are about $150 cheaper than QTP for a complete 2.25" (or any size really).

Sorry, I didn't mean you were loosing the mufflers altogether as, I agree, that would be very loud to live with at all times. I meant you were going to have the cutouts at the back so when you opened them, the exhaust would not being exiting the mufflers, but would exit the cutouts.

I'll take a look at those vids today and see if that changes my plans at all.

oh got ya! Yes, basically that.. keeping the mufflers but bypasssing them when I oopen up the cutouts.. you know, startle a few ppl on the bus stop or walking out of a store.. lol
