Final Stage Resistor Failing?

My interior blower fan is now intermittently shutting off when I'm using the HVAC. Is intermittent operation indicative of a failing FSR? If so that is quite annoying because I replaced mine a year and a half ago. Anything else it could be?

Thanks-

When mine started doing that it ended up being the fan itself. It's lots of fun to replace.

I just replaced one in an E46.. It wasn't hard, just literally had to bend in about 9 places to get into the space to get it done. I don't know if the E53 is similar to the E46, but here is my guide just in case.

E46 is relatively easy. On the E53, the entire dash needs to come out. I think it took me about 14 hours, but I was methodical about labeling things.

Thanks-
that's one symptom of a failing FSU.
you have more space on the x5 and relatively easier than the e46 or e39.. what brand of FSU you bought?

It's actually not that hard; just a large amount of stuff to remove to get at it. I'm guessing a pro could do one in under 8 hours.
