its an 04 BUT the stem seals were changed in 2012 so it would certainly have updated stem seals. are you sure the newer stem seals are "updated" so if they were changed i don't have to worry about that? it was done at bmw too

Yep.. I owned mine for 7 years.......just have a GOOD MECHANIC TO WORK ON YOUR BMW and my a Rip off artist

how many miles do you have? i never heard of updated stem seals because even the e70 4.8 had bad stem seals

if You can pull the CCV and see if there is mayo in there. ......check the oil too. also rise it up and crawl under neith

I bought an '04 4.8is back in October. I love it. However it is expensive to own/maintain. Mine was bought with 81K miles. I needed to replace the valve body and solenoids in the transmission and now have to replace the alternator bracket gasket (yes, there is such a thing).

Well I just pulled the trigger on the 4.8is. I felt a little more confident with it because I know the valve seals were done. On the 4.6 without knowing the timing chain guides were done yet, it could have been anytime. I'm not looking to buy one of these and then need an engine overhaul. Hope I made the right decision buying one at all.
