Idler, Tensioner pulleys and Belts REplacement

Any one can shed some light on DIY on a 2006 e53 4.4?

Thanks!

That's an open ended question. Take the fan shroud off, which may or may not require taking the fan off, then replace the belt.

Thanks for the response, I put my specific year as all the searches from here, your tub and google are for 2003 not the 2004-2006 which is a little different setup Fan Shroud.

Doesn't n62 engine have electric fan?
Just searched "bmw n62 belt diagram" in google and comes up with what you need in 1 sec.

I'm sorry, I'm reminded of the guy that asks if he can bum a cigarette, then he wants a light, then he wants me to smoke it for him.

You should be able to open the hood and look at what has to happen next. I'm so confused...

Hey Junster, all in all it's pretty straight forward; I literally just went through it (and then some) with my mine.

It is an electric fan and the shroud and fan unit come out as one piece - unplug the two power plugs (sensor on top center and large plug on top right hand side of the shroud) and push down and towards the engine (lightly) with a flat head screw driver on the two black shroud retention clips that hold it on to the radiator once that's done make sure everything is clear of the shroud and gently wiggle and pull up. Beyond that it's your usual R&R stuff - 1, 16mm bolt holds on the ac tensioner and 1, 16mm bolt holds on the water pump\power steering tensioner and the idler pulley directly under the alternator is a T45 if memory serves me right.

Don't know how many miles you have or what your budget is or if you've done it recently, but while you're in there you may want to do the water pump and t-stat also, it's only 8 more 10mm bolts on the pump\stat and 8, 16mm bolts on the crank pulley, all pretty easy to get to with the fan already out of your way.
Good luck!!

Purplefade,

Thanks for the response, I did it actually within about 20mins taking the fan shroud off but I didn’t have a 55 t torq, my set only went up to 50. I ordered the tensioner drive belt as both pulleys are making noise. Both Belts seem to be fine but ordered
Them as well. My X5 is almost at 95k miles and water pump was
Already replaced.

Thanks for the response again, I’ll take them apart again next weekend.

Cheers
