Couple of X5's

Hello all. I've been following this forum since I picked up my 2002 X5 5 speed. Now I'll be on here more as I have just picked up a 2003 4.6is. As always both have a few issues but nothing that can't be fixed with a little time. Thanks for a great outlet for working on the X5's.

We have his and hers 2001s. When the door handle carriers break make sure to find my fix that eliminates the cause of the breakage.

Already had to fix the drivers door handle on the 02. Now if the weather will behave, I'll be replacing the inner handle carrier on the 4.6is.

When you do, cut the nub off that is 96% to blame for all failures and it won't re-break on the first frost.

Inner?

Yes, it's the inner. Thanks for the welcome.

Which nub are you speaking of?

So what you're saying is that the outer handles should NOT lift when the doors are locked? Mine lift whether the door is locked or not.

The design is to attempt to block lifting when locked but it only "binds". It's the binding that serves no purpose than breaking the hinge. Cut off the nub and then the handle will "dry fire" and no longer risk self destructing.
