Any ideas where this part attaches?

206 X5 3.0. Was doing a little cleaning under the hood and knocked this part loose: 64116917001. It's an AC sensor. I can't tell what it's supposed to attach to though. It's plugged in so it's just sitting on the wheel well right now. I'd like to get it clipped back on to wherever it's supposed to be.

That is the stink sensor, it sits on the fan shroud and samples incoming air.

What does it do when it samples the air?

It tells the IHKA(or what ever the electronic A/C control unit is called) which then puts the air to recirc if you have the auto recirc feature enagaged.

They have a limited life span so if it is original you might have a code telling you it has failed and you probably would need to replace it.

Holy crap! I've had a disconnected connector for over a year and didn't know where the hell it went! Now I know. No wonder my smellometer wasn't working.

Thanks for the info. Can't find a location on my fan shroud where this thing should be located. I'll keep looking. Thanks again everyone.

On the M54 engine (for the e53 X5)...it is B414 in the pic below (taken from the newtis.info website):
RH side of engine compartment front: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...sensor/q-X3211
  • B414 AUC sensor
  • X3211 Component connector (4-pin, Black), AUC sensor
