SRS Module Swap, still getting shadow codes that won't clear
Looking for some help with an airbag module swap issue. My SRS module was throwing a (240) internal control fault, so I bought a used SRS module to swap out, same part number and version number of my X5. The swap was actually a piece of cake after watching a quick video. The issue I'm having is that I'm coming up with the almost the same codes from before, but its showing that the Internal control unit fault is a shadow error, and not live, same with all the rest of them. The live data shows that everything is in order, besides the seat mat sensor. I cannot clear these codes, using BMW scanner, or INPA. When trying to clear the codes in INPA, it simply says "ERROR_ECU_REJECTED. I'm aware there is an issue with the seat occupancy recognition mat in the passenger seat, and you can see that from the pic below. I do believe i bought a bad used module, and that now i need to send off the original to get it wiped clean, and reinstall it to see if those shadow errors are gone. I understand that if i dont fix the mat issue, it will continue to still show the airbag light on the dash and store the error with for the mat sensor. Is there an option for me to simply code out the seat sensor, and if i do so, would i just unplug the SBE control unit under the seat? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can try an emulator to bypass the seat sensor, but I have been told that some airbag errors will not clear as it is a way for someone to know if an airbag had functioned and been replaced.
The other thing is the little plastic bar inside the clip gets broken and sends an error. Some of the guys here have replaced that piece with a little sliver of a credit card, but I have not had this problem myself. PS. Airbags can throw a code if it was unplugged while the battery was connected so be careful about that. Sent from Embassy network using Tapatalk

Those 6900727 airbag modules (used up to 4/2001) are notorious to cause problems. The internal chip gets corrupted showing internal fault and none of the active codes can be reset. The module can be repaired but but it needs to be done on a bench programming the chip.

Thank you for the replies. I have gone ahead and ordered the seat sensor bypass, and i have shipped my original SRS off to be bench programmed. Was really hoping i wouldnt have to deal with sending the original off to get fixed, but since this used one is no good and installed, i guess it gave me the opportunity to send off the original to get fixed, and 20 bucks to temporarily solve my seat mat issue is alright by me. I will update once i get the original back and installed.

Back at it again, with no luck.
I got the repaired module back, and the bypass as well, hooked everything up, cleared the codes, all of the errors cleared EXCEPT the passenger occupancy error, even the old internal control fault cleared! But then when i disconnected the passenger bypass and reprogrammed it to not have the seat occupancy,which said it wrote to the unit fine, i scanned again, and the internal control fault showed right back up when i went to scan for errors again, along with the same passenger occupancy error! So, i've narrowed it down to the little black SBE box that may be causing my issue for the occupancy sensor. I unplugged it completely, and rescanned, and now it showing 4 SBE errors, but they're all yellow, and not present! But now im back at square one, the unit has F0 internal control fault again, and the errors will not clear. How can these brick THAT easy?!?! When i did the first clear, I did not start the vehicle fully, i had only turned it to position 2, and the codes cleared fine, but after leaving it on for several minutes trying to figure out why it still showed the occupancy error even with the bypass plugged in, my batter voltage dropped to around 11.6V. Can anything under 12V cause these to just brick? I do have the second module that i can ship off and have them clear again, and try to do this again while the vehicle is started, and make sure that its above 12V when i clear everything. Quite frustrating this is!

If you use a bypass, the seat belt needs to be buckled. I have a buckle insert in my passenger side OEM buckle. The air bag will deploy even if no one is sitting the passenger side. Buckle the seat shoulder belts and rescan.
