The shocks have all been replaced, the X5 has 246K miles on it. It's from Idaho, but fortunately where we lived (and where the truck was) did not use salt, they used crushed volcanic rock so rust isn't really a problem.
Have any suspension parts been replaced other than shocks?

Only $400 for a VC job? Sounds fishy, no?

I ended up not going through that mechanic. He gets great reviews, but they all comment he's a bit scatterbrained and has issues getting your vehicle back to you on time. I showed up at the time agreed on, but he wasn't there.

I ended up taking it to another shop a co-worker takes his BMW to and also gets great reviews. I dropped it off today, and they replaced the VC gaskets, the thrust arm bushings, and the ball joints. It was a little more expensive, but they still only charged me $600 for the VC gaskets.

The X5 is MUCH happier now, no more steering issues, braking issues (vibrations), and clunking from the suspension.

However to offset this happiness, the rear left regulator failed on Friday.
