Cruise control not working: Any help please

Thanks for the add.

1st post, noob on here, but really need help with this one!

My ‘02 X5 3.0d manual has lost cruise operation.
It lights up the dash symbol but fails to work.
I’m going on my longest car ever journey on Friday and I’m getting desperate!

I’ve replaced slip ring and button set on steering wheel.
I have access to diagnostic gear: Bosch KTS and snap on solus.

Prior to noticing the cruise not working I had an issue with the dsc module codes 30 and 33 wheel speed circuit intermittent and ended up sending module off for repair, since then a yaw sensor circuit was intermittent - replaced sensor 3 days ago -ok so far.

Continual reoccurring EBV fault / fault 189 in kombi instrument module.

Not a clue how the cruise goes about it’s business (through what modules) and could do with some advice

I’m well aware how the cruise operates- I’ve owned this for 10 years now.

Tia

This might help - it's the functional description of fault conditions for the CC..

Thanks Wayne that is a great help. Good source of info there. Looks like I will need to get a more specific diagnostic tool because half of the systems mentioned are not detected by my current diag tools.

Resigned to the fact that I won’t have working CC on my holiday trip, but have continued turn down the offer of a Peugeot hire car! Things aren’t that desperate yet!
Looking forward to 1000km in 1 day through France (double driving)

Cheers

Faulty brake light switch is a likely cause - they are known to fail and a failure will stop the CC dead in it's tracks. Easy to test/check too - at least a check to see that the brake lights light up when you stand on the brake pedal.

You Bloke across the pond just have to be a little more inventive in your solution to a problem. Here's a redneck approach for a cruise control.

Enjoy.

Smart solution because it will automatically slow down for curves.
