Is there a button at trunk lid/rear window to open?

Hi all,

As I continue to fix the variety of minor issues on my "new" '03 X5 3.0, I'm wondering if there is supposed to be a trunk lid/rear window release button AT the rear of the car? Between the two license plates lights?

There is a rubber "button/handle" thing, but, pressing it does nothing. I took it off and there does not appear to be an electrical switch in behind there. When I hit the "trunk" button on my key, and on the console next to heated seat buttons, it opens the rear lid/gate... But that rubber grabby button at the rear of the car does nuthin.

Am I missing something?

Thank you!

Jay

The rubber button between the two license plate lights is the trunk (boot) release on the LCI models, which have the soft close actuator. I don't know if the pre-facelift cars have any release control there but I would think they would...

There should be a microswitch behind the rubber thingy. Pressing the rubber thingy will activate the microswitch to release the hatch.

You need to order one of these pieces.

And here a DIY on how to fix it.
