Broken upper hatch bumper

On my remaining X5 (2003 4.6 is), I swapped out the older style fixed bumpers
for the spring loaded ones. I have been getting an odd rattle for a month or so.
I tore into finding the rattle to only find that the passenger side bumper has
Lost it’s mojo.

Has anyone else seen the spring fail on their X5?

hate how it just rusts in that area.....eventually.
I'm on our second replacement - I think 9-12 months in ....as the former replacement spring lost it's tension on the 1st swap.

On the left, still nice plated metal. The on on the right, eh, I see white corrosion developing.

I even put on some marine grease on the 1st one, but eventually that just washes out...
