Having trouble sitting valve cover properly on N62 x5 ...SUCCESS!!!

I spent half the night trying to properly sit the valve cover on the passenger side. The spark plug domes are not sitting in completely. There's about 3mm space left for it to sit completely. I've liberally applied grease for O ring install. Tried to torque down the bolts per TIS instructions, tried to hammer it down on the corners. I'm afraid I could end up cracking the valve cover. I installed and removed now about 3 times and have given up to go to bed.

Any tricks?
