Hood Cable Slack?
Hi guys,
Had to deal with a strange issue yesterday. Few months back hood cable snapped at latch. Disassembled the dead pedal area, and pulled on snapped cable with vice grips to open hood and replace first half portion of the cable. Job done, hood opens, great. Yesterday, wanted to open the engine hood to give the car a charge. Hood does not open. Latch felt as if it was completely free. My thoughts are the segment connecting the two half cables has snapped, as there is absolutely no resistance. I take apart one kidney, and fashion a tool out of a long rod. Pop the hood, and what do you know, nothing is broken. Turns out pulling the latch, does cause some movement to the cable. But the rest of the force seems to be displaced by the cable flexing. As a result, cable doesn't pull far enough to unlock latch. Anyone experience anything like this? I've went ahead and anchored the cable along its route to prevent any flexing... wondering if anyone has any other tips or experiences to weigh in... perhaps i'm missing something altogether? Thanks
