DIY Rear Wiper Motor Replacement
This one is on my short-list of to-dos. Replace BMW X5 Rear Wiper Motor 2001 X53

Mine has an issue where the arm goes past the bottom of the glass and rests on hatch/metal body part.
I can easily move it back to it's original resting position with my hands but feel like the tension is gone. Will a new motor fix this issue as well? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

one of the things he mentioned in the video was exactly that IIRC. wiper dropping below the belt.
i think it depends what is wrong though. i think there is also an issue with the motor gear being stripped at times. not sure if there is a replacement for the e53 like there is for the e70 however. actually, just found this on ebay. who knows if it is needed or usable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E53-E83...IAAOSwdGFYtcpK but if that chip is burned, you are kinda dead in the water. i like the video primarily for showing how to get all that plastic off. a virtual GUARANTEE that i will break some of the BMW plastic taking it off!! been breaking BMW plastic since 1999 !

Couple of wine notes.
Use plastic wedge tools like the Banjos. I think the only real gotcha was I found a clip or 2 missing - I have had work done in the past YEARS AGO running Sirius, GPS antennas to the top deck. I did find 2 or 3 missing metal retension clips. It's a pretty straightforward job

good to know. i've discovered with BMW retention clips that you kinda have to 'pull with authority'...all in one motion. same with the door panels. once you locate where the thing is held, it's best to make one strong motion rather than 'work it out'. Famous last words.

Thanks to OP for finding and posting the video. Wish I would have looked deeper into the search before fooling with testing the motor, texting the stalk, testing the relays, replacing fuses....you get the picture.
 The moral of the story here is, if your rear window wiper stops working, check your fuse then pull the trim and check under the plastic cap for the burnt chip. Exactly what I found on mine. Looks like I'm ordering a new motor.
