E53 TV install

Hi guys,

I just installed a tv module to my 03 X5. Bought both a tv retrofit harness from and a tv module 6911221 from ebay.

Connected one end of the harness to the module and the other end to the navigation unit. Pretty straight forward.

However, there's an additional 2 pin wire from the harness that I can't find connection to. Can you guys take a look and let me know where it goes?

Sorry for the lack of install photos. When you get into the install frenzy you forget everything except making the install work. I did manage to take a screen shot of the items I purchased on ebay.

My next step is to purchase an atsc tuner from aliexpress and install it into the oem tv module. Add on 2 antennas and hope for the best!

I already purchased a ccd camera. (please see attached photo for the one I got) Does anyone know how to connect it onto the tv module?

Also like to know if it's possible to have tv on the go?

2 other notes:

1. Does anyone know what the spare connector is on my first photo? it's unplugged and tucked away on the right side of the PDC module. No idea what it does.

2. I installed the tv module to the empty space next to the radio tuner on the right. When you pull out the entire assembly that contains the radio tuner, you'll see that the black tray in actually empty and is a pretty close fit for a tv module.

Much obliged!

Theo

wpoll will become famous soon enough
Is the empty connector the trailer (towing) module connector? I don't see the trailer module in the other photos so it may be that.

Thanks for the suggestion. It might be that. My trailer connection isn't hooked up at all. There's a plastic cover that goes over the trailer connection.

Buying parts today for the ATSC tuner install. Should be fun.

Most likely that is for the parking brake, so you can not watch TV on the screen while you are driving. Parking Brake has to be set for the tuner to show video on the screen.

I'm sure there's a way around it, but you not going to get that info from me. Too many distracted drivers on the road these days, don't need one watching a football game while driving or worse watching a Soap opera while driving.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Safety first!

I was only asking for hypothetical/educational purposes!

A hundred years ago when I added TV to my E39, you had the option of sending the OE unit to a place that would modify it for TV in motion. At the time, they even had units they would send in advance for the OE core. Later, they sold a cable that did the same thing, IIRC. This was in the days of analog tuners. I do not know if someone has figured out how to do it via coding since.

Here's an old school link from Bimmerfest.

It looks like navtv.com is still in business. Who knew?

can be coded to enable Video in Morion via Navcoder and PA Soft.

But not worth it.

The DVB-t module and antenna/s are not fast enough to provide you a good signal when driving above 60 kph.

YMMV!
