E53 Facelift (04) - Does it have Tyre Pressure Sensors (Valves).

Having tyre inflation issues and changed tyres, but still losing air. So, guessing it’s valves. Had all 4 done by BMW years ago, they fitted metal valves, but don’t know if they had sensors. Obviously, if the car supports valve sensors, I will fit sensor valves, but if the car doesn’t, then standard valves are going on. How can I tell if the car needs valves with sensors or just standard valves? I do get the TPMS dash message, but is that because BMW fittednon-sensor valves or dodge external senor?
Thanks in advance

Just got back from tyre shop to have all 4 valves replaced, only to discover that once the first tyre had been removed, the valve in fact did have a pressure sensor attached. So have to scrape that idea as the tyre place didnt have valves with sensors in stock.

I think 04 was a split year on indirect and direct TPMS system. You must have the direct system if you have sensors. Newer e53's used the indirect(ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor) method.

Just checked real oem and my car is a 03/2004 model and has direct, 04/2004 doesnt. so instead of a £10 rubber valve, i got do fit £125 valves.

Try Alibaba or Amazon and you can get a full set for that price.

I have a 2005 4.8is (12/2004 Build Date) and my TPMS light came on after driving on the highway for about 2 hours. After I restart my car it goes off and didn't come on this morning (local driving).

How do I check if I have TPMS direct or indirect?

My X5 build date is 05/2005 and has an indirect TPMS. I did not know that the previous year it had direct TPMS.
