Style 87 Wheel Question

Does anyone know if there were replicas ever made/sold of the Style 87 wheels? I'm looking at some for sale and on the back the wording placed there by the manufacturer during the forge process it says "Not Original Equipment" along with "Made In Italy", "M 2453" and "10.5Jx20H2/ET30".

And it's got this JWL stamp on the back, too. "JWL" stamp on alloy wheels | Cartype

Yes, I have seen style 87's with BWM instead of BMW on the front of the wheel between the lugs.

I'm not sure I follow you completely. I just looked up on ebay and a seller who says he's got original BMW style 87s shows pics of the center of the wheel, on the front, with BMW and other markings forged in the front between the lugs.

So are you saying you've seen original wheels with and without the markings on the front?

wpoll will become famous soon enough
I think he is saying the copy wheels say B W M (rather than B M W) to avoid a copyright breach....

Yes, happened to me. Look very close at the BMW lettering it can trick the eye. In my case the seller pics were not clear enough and sure enough was a fake. He did not send pics of the rear and I did not think to ask after I saw what I thought was correct stamping on the front. Of course I did not realize it until I was ready to refinish but fortunately I had a backup and donated that POS to the refinisher as a practice wheel. Its was a $47 lesson, which BTW should have been my 1st clue it was a fake.

The ones I see for sale don't have ANY markings around the lugs. Guess I'll have to pass on those.

Thanks all for the help!

Within the past few weeks, brand new OE Style 87's have come way down in price.

Fronts only, but this is a nice start..
