Dang rats!
![]() Anyway, as I begin to inspect where the bolts of the manifold are located, I am looking at the top of it, and find that a rat (must be small) had been in there. I found the carcass of a tree nut jammed in there, and this dang rodent seems to have been eating away at the hoses because the little <bleep> was beginning to make its nest out of hose insulation material... Oh joy, now I have to figure out which hoses this guy chewed on!

Just be glad it's the hoses and not the wiring. Japanese manufacturers use wire with soy-based insulation; mice and rates love to eat it, and they can chew through an entire harness.
It's so bad that 3M makes "hot pepper" harness tape that the rodents won't eat. .

my parents had the same issues. would get intermittent electrical gremlins. when i took it apart found some of the wires were damaged. thats what happens if you dont drive your vehicles regularly. their fix? they bought a cat. no issues since..

Yeah, the car has been sitting in the garage for a while now because of the DSC/ABS/Brake lights. I now set up some mouse traps in the garage. I have never actually seen a rodent there but now I know they are around!
Interesting about the soy-based stuff. I had heard of them biting away at wires but never knew why they'd do that. That explains it! Thx |
