Max tire Size for Stock E53

Hey all I have a 01 X5 with 18s (255/55/18) and I am wanting to fill out the wheel wells a little bit better. I am wondering what is the maximum size I could fit without modification or rubbing. If you have pictures that would be great too.. thank you in advance for any help!

It really depends on the width and offset of your wheels. I run staggered style 87s 9.5/10.5. On the rear I run 315x35x20 and run a 1" spacer. Nothing on the front with 275x40x20.

Quality H&R spacers can be had from FCP Euro or ECS Tuning and would be cheaper than buying all new tires.

The current wheels I have are the:

Style 69 18x8.5
Bolt Pattern: 5-120mm
Offset: 48mm

& I guess I should have included this in the original post but I am looking to purchase new tires anyway so I am trying to figure out the best look

I really wouldn't run anything wider on a 8.5" wide wheel. You would be bulging the side walls. You also have to keep the aspect ratio the same or within 2%

If you want bigger tyres, you need bigger wheels. The OEM 19" staggered setup will work fine, if you can find a set of rims.

*edit* - oh, and FWIW, because the 19" rims run lower profile tyres, they don't really fill the wheel well out any more than the OEM 18" on 55 profile tyres...

Would a 265/60/18 tire rub?

but the bigger size would put your speedo out by over 5% (reading low) and it'd be best to changing all four tyres to match, for the sake of your transfer case.

Mine are 275/40ZR20 front and 315/35ZR20 rear on factory 20in wheels. Sorry I don’t have the wheel sizes handy. May be unique to the 4.8is?

I am looking to keep the 18s but fill out the wheel wells with more rubber, sorry I wasn't clear in the OP. I am not looking to upgrade to bigger wheels just tires.

Got that - just letting you know that wheel well can handle a pretty big tire/wheel combo.
