HOW do you open lever connectors to add pins?

I know how the lever works to release the connector, but how do you open the cover to add/remove a pin?

OR what are these connectors official" called?

THANKS!

The cover does indeed slide off, there's a tab on either side of the bottom, release tabs and slide out.

Hiya,

I did buy a tool set to remove those kind of pins off ebay many years ago, just checked purchase history and can only go back a few years so no idea exact term/name

But, get a small cheap slo screwdriver, over in england they are normally cheap yellow plastic handled, file/grind down so they can fit into a square section without scraping

If you look at yout lowest left pic, towards the top of those pins you will see the very top has a folding pair, those you open with a blade etc and they then crimp back to hold your wire tight, just below is the part you have to push in to remove a pin from the socket, it kinda sticks out on an angle to catch a lip inside the socket so once in it's like a harpoon/hook barb scenario

Here goes, once tool or handmade tool is fine to put in from the socket (can't rem if from below or above) but as you put the pry (i will call it that) in you should feel some resitance, what's happening is it is easing that barb back, as you feel this you push on the wire top of clip as if you are pushing cable further in, this helps take pressure off the bard, so with a jiggle lol and a push in and a slow pull out (i shall say nothing) out should come the pin

To insert you can slightly pry out that said bard for a nice tight new fit

Hope that makes sense and helps

ps : I do recall breaking both tool bits i did get as they are tough steel but very brittle on the flex/bend

Goodluck

Tony

PS : As you look from above at the wires going in, you aim to slide the tool/hand made to the very face side which shows in your pic, eg : look at a wire and see where the top crimp is and has been crimped over, that's the side/face you're aiming for, off memory they all fave same way so once you figure one you all set

I did mine to add a stalk to control my onboard comp in an old e36

PPS : It's late here and i wasn't thinking as normal, here we call them darning needles, and we can get different thicknesses/lengths, they work too but don't sit on one they sure do go in far !

TE Connectivity AMP Micro Quadlock System Series (MQS)

The inner connector should slide out the direction of the wire exit. You will need to release a tab on each side.

To release the terminal just push the locking tab (shown by red arrow) in and pull the terminal out the wire end.

I recommend Digi-Key Electronics or the dealer for connector, pins or housings.

Just a follow up for those that may find this in the future.
Got the cover off, easy when you know where the tabs are and how it slides off.
I bought the pins "Universal Pin Terminal Repair Kit" but they are very difficult to crimp the wire in - you have to get it crimped down small enough AND round enough to have it slide in - like everything else BMW - you need a "special tool". If I did it over I think I would try to find a used connector with wire tails, pull out and reuse a pin with the new wire spliced on.
THANKS for all the info!
