I will be gone for 2 weeks though so the urgency is as close to nil as it can get.

Agreed. PA Soft (BMW Scanner 1.4) would be the easiest to disable cold check. I can help whenever you're ready.

Thanks!

I'm not opposed to having the most flexible solution if that's NCS Expert. I'm handy with a PC, but I did read some troubles in the latest drivers/installations after Creator's Update in Windows 10. I'd prefer to go straight through without a VM 'cause it's just cleaner. Is the latest patch of Windows 10 a non-starter or are we good to go?

I read that the cables are not compatible between NCS and PA Soft. If this is true, do you have links for NCS cables?

I found this one:

Edit:

I also found Carly on the Google store. Has anyone used this for cold check clears? It would be *sooper* cool to use the Android radio whenever I wanted to code.

Can’t the whole fog light housing be pulled out without removing the bumper? Just seems like two screws holding it?

That cable is fine for INPA/NCS, etc. Even has the switch to bridge pins 7 and 8. (Our versions of BMW, E46, E53, E39, etc) Unbridged is 2007+. Yes BMW Scanner 1.4 and INPA/NCS/WinKFP have different cables.

It is indeed a struggle to get it to run on Win10. I tried for weeks to make it work on Win10 before giving up and buying a XP machine dedicated to my BMW coding work.

The latest Win10 updates do force signed digital drivers so this could also be an issue with BMW Scanner unless you know how to disable the MS driver issue. All we can do is try, and happy to help.

One last FYI is BMW Scanner 1.4 can do some things that INPA cannot and INPA can do some things BMW Scanner 1.4 cannot so it is really best to have both. They are less than $20 each so put them both in your toolbox.

You can turn off the cold check on the BMW Scanner 1.4 in less than 2 minutes. NCS Expert will take at least 10 minutes as you need to pull the files, modify the files and then translate the files before sending them back via NCS Expert.

I helped Muleears last week code a few things on his X5 using teamviewer and BMW Scanner 1.4. I just log on to his computer and do the work while he watched and learned. He is now doing his coding on his own now.

Cant you just remove the fog light trim? On LCI's, this is a 1/3 turn on the plastic surrounding the housing. On '04 and up, it's a snap cover that comes off revealing two screws that hold the housing.

Yeah I thought so, I’m going to get new fog light housings while at it since mine are all pitted. Don’t want to remove the bumper again.

I have Carly and used it to code off all cold check monitoring. Switched to all LEDs (minus fogs, those are next) and have no issues. Love the look of the bright/quick LED signals. Posted a video somewhere on here but can re-link if desired.

Problem with Carly now is that it is a subscription service... of course. I was an "early" adopter and was grandfathered in so I have it for life... or until they change their mind about the policy. If they ever do that I'll be asking for a full refund, and pounding sand after they laugh at me.

If I ever get my Android unit in... I'll let you know how well Carly plays with it. I did do some prep work to the harness and trunk area in regards to the install... so maybe it will go in before the apocalypse?
