Ball Joint Tool - STRANDED on Australia DAY long weekend!!!!

Hi,

Well I thought I was set to do the rear suspension on my 4.4. It's a 3 day long weekend so had some time to pull apart the car....what could go wrong?

Got all the parts, installed the upper control arms and was cruising.. had borrowed a ball joint removal kit.... so pulled it apart and ready to pull it out... but after much gnashing of teeth and THEN checking on here discovered the universal tool on an E53 is about as useless as an inflatable anchor....

So... here I am, the wifes' 4.8is is flat on the nose waiting for suspension parts to come into stock and I've just pulled apart the 4.4 only to discover the ball joint tool DOES NOT WORK!!!

I'm feeling a bit sheepish right now as we have no transport unless I can find a tool quick as...

I've seen lots of tools on Aliexpress etc but can't wait 4 weeks for it to get to Australia....

Can anyone point me to a known brand that I can track to a supplier in Australia?

Otherwise gonna have to uber around and the wife is looking at me real hard...

Dog house might be my friend....

You need to either use the ball joint tool made for X5 OR you can cut a bite out of the press ring so it will fit centered on the bushings.

The tool I have is completely wrong. The press pieces are too long to fit and the receiving cup is too small a diameter...

Amazing what you don't know you don't know....

Bummer I've seen the big c-clamp version "universal" style that coukd be modified to work.

I just bought the x5 proper tool for $55 from Amazon. Ordered yesterday.

Get the CTA tool or any other brand tat looks like his one
https://www.tooltopia.com/cta-tools-8692.aspx
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/a...8&d=1486440910

Must have the cut out on the tool side (flat side)
This tool aligns the joint on the install. It will not be easy with any off brand tool he is nothing more Han a big C clamp. In from those tools.

More good ones
