4.8 Front Diff Exploded

Following on from my other thread on my front drive shaft(s) woes. Here are the pics of my diff after we stripped and cleaned it so that you can see the shocking damage caused by a lack of lubricant to metal on metal gearing.

Can I hire a Drive hydraulic shaft puller?

Did you have any warning before that happened?

The front outer CV boot split and threw out all the grease. That in turn caused the shaft to seize. The diff went at that point (so far as we can tell). It was trying to get up a very steep and slippery driveway when it went bang.

For good measure we replaced the Actuator Gear at the same time. In fairness the gear looked okay. But I didn’t want another strip den in a known weak link that only cost £29.50 on eBay for an updated gear.
