Those that added running boards

Oh no not another running board thread?!?! This isn't about compatibility or part numbers. I have an opportunity to pick up a set of running boards but the more I look at pictures I think I like the lines of the body better without the boards. But, when I first got my truck last year I really loved the look of them and had to have them but they were cost prohibitive so I didn't buy them. So I'm not sure if it's just one of those things where the more you look at something the more you overthink it.

So let's get to the point. If you added running boards after you got your X5 were you happy about adding them? I know it's a subjective personal thing but is there anything you love or hate about them? Do you feel it took away from the aggressive stance or sportiness by adding them? The problem is I never see any X5's around that have the running boards, let alone a 4.4, 4.8 with the extended flares so I can see one live versus a pic.

Any feedback welcome!

Mine came with it and only keeping them because the fronts have the Le mans flares on them.

Otherwise I prefer the look without them.

The only usefulness of them is when washing the car to reach the roof.

Our first E53 did not have running boards. Our second one did. Would never consider buying one that did not have running boards for long term ownership again after that. Much prefer the looks of them and think they only add to the sportiness. As you say, it's subjective. Even the wife's E70 had to have running boards (she likes them) and they get your pants dirty anytime you get out of the truck unless you are careful. They have their upsides and downs.

^And yes, they really help when cleaning the roof of the truck. I never liked having to open the doors, take my shoes off or flip-flops to step on the inside door sill to wash the roof.

Wait a second... I have pics of my old truck without running boards, and with running boards (+flares). Spacers were added after this picture though to push the wheels out to meet the flares.

That is my X in Crystalworks reply.....absolutely love that I added them. Only downside is that I now have to "step over" them as to prevent my pants from getting dirty. Would do it over again in a heartbeat tho.

I personally love them and don't regret getting them one bit. IMHO, it makes the e53 look modern and much more sporty. This was the original aluminum running board that started it all. Now, you see Mercedes and Acura copying it.

Crowz will become famous soon enough
I have models with and without them and while they look good in my opinion they are a pain to step over. They are not large enough to help people get in or out and just get your clothes dirty. So functionally they are a joke. But they do look good

After ~130k with my big ass, my seats are terrible, but THIS is a GREAT idea!

OP: I *love* them. But you know that. I want them for the white one, so if you pass, hit me up!
