Have you tried sport mode? You may have grenaded the transfer case. Best case scenario as you can grab another at a wrecker for under $500. Worst case is your transmission exploded. But these symptoms don’t sound like a normal transmission failure.

Put it in park. No ebrake. No brakes at all, see if you can still roll the car by pushing it.

Ok. I do not have a scan tool, but I do have INPA setup, so should be able to connect to the trans controller and read fault codes / pressures or whatever.

Any tips on what to look for in INPA?

Have found the e60's have same tow hook, so borrowing one of those to get it out of the pharmacy car park.

Thanks. Heading to check now. It is park on a mid slope at the moment, and does not roll in park. It does roll in neutral (pushed it back into the spot).

Symptoms are sounding like from transmission but usually you will get the gear icon if things are out of whack from a control standpoint eg solinoid pressures etc.

If you can put in park and it locks, the transfer case is getting through to the transmission to the park prawl.

I would definitely want to read live values of the solinoid pressures etc which the laptop should be able to do but crunchy sounds usually means broken teeth.

I certainly would do so if I could but I'm near the bottom of the South Island and I think SRacin is in Auckland - near the top of the North Island, over 1,500km and a 3-4hour ferry crossing away.

That right, SRacin…?

As for the problem... doesn't sound cheap, whatever it is.

Went past the car on the way home. Need to go back again now with the laptop. But I do not think a laptop is going to solve the ridiculous sounding noise...

Thoughts?

Well, that's a little closer! A mere 360kms (~250m) from Dunedin...

Sounds like you have a laptop etc. so not much I can add here...

Checked error codes in gearbox control module. Two faults from about 5km before permanent failure. Any ideas what this might mean?
