CB radios - Do you have one in your X5?

Anyone using CB radios in your X5?

Planning to install one and trying to get ideas where to mount it.

Share photos please of your setup.

If you have an after market head unit and have pulled most of the old components then I'd mount it in the cargo sidewall area and add a linear booster (illegal in the USA). If it wasn't for the antenna I'd have a Codan unit.

hahaha...

That'll be awesome!

The ACMA here in Oz will be hunting for me!

Imagine the size of the antenna on top my X5....Brutal!

I just need something smaller that I can communicate with fellow outback travellers.

I have an unused Icom IC-400Pro sitting in the shed.

If you didn’t have factory NAV and didn’t use your CD player would be a nice option to mount it above the radio...

Another idea would be if you could somehow utilize the space where the ashtray is, just in front of the shifter... dunno ??

Last thought is in the glove box, tap the flashlight port (maybe) for easy power... but would be poor access overall and not sure where the mic would go.

Good luck!

Those old kickers as they were called are a BAAAAADDD ideal in a modern car ESPECIALLY one with a bus system.

We used to terrorize people using pay phones back in the day. You could pull into a parking lot and key up the mic with at least a 250 watt cb amp and talk over the phone call someone was having. Scared the living crap out them.

Also with 350 watts or more you can talk over disconnected speakers

At 1000 watts you can make light bulbs illuminate that are close to the antenna.

Fun times.

Anyways the amp would jam/corrupt the data on the various ibus, etc used in a bmw.

Could you modify the center console and drop it in there? Would be awesome if you could just close the lid and hide everything

Even if you hollowed it out and had to install it at a slight angle with the face, facing you a bit? Grab some abs before plastic, cut, heat and bend to any shape you needed it.

May be a neat install- bud you would lose the console space....

But hey, you still have the glove box for stuff!
