Mystery vent hose.....where’s it go
Hard pipe with a 5/16” ( I think) rubber connector. Old one seems in new condition so must be away from heat and oil. Anyone? Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Last edited by Oldmactech; 04-30-2019 at 11:41 AM. |

Think I figured it out. Must have come with the CCV rebuild kit, original is likely still installed but not looking at it right now.

This vent pipe is also an oft asked question from new owners when they first explore the engine bay. Regardless if the V8 or I6...this vent tube is sticking out in the open unattached at the top...so the first thought is that it got dettached from something... but it's OK. It's supposed to be unattached. . You can see arrows pointing at this same front diff vent pipe on my 06 e53 X5 with the N62 V8 engine:

Thanks, I get it but after looking around with a flashlight from up top yet to find the connection point at the front diff. Guess I’ll have to crawl under.

Forget about crawling underneath there ... that thing is sitting deep all the way down there...

I have an 04-06 4.8is and I'm near positive that's the front diff breather like mentioned. I just took that off and put it back on the front diff putting a new upper oil pan in. It's probably not going to ruin the car if you drive it with that off. The best place to see how to put it back on if the car is going to be in the drivers side front wheel well. If you can get the wheel off you should be able to see where it attaches, it's a tight fit in there trust me so look hard.
Here's an image that shows the differential out of the car so you know what shapes to look for and how the tube attaches. Your diff may be slightly different but not enough to notice... https://www.railwayautospares.com/me...g_7064_1_2.jpg |
