Please help me! oil service interval light is always full. Not working.

Hello everyone.

I need your help. I have x5 e53 2005. I changed engine oil and reset oil service then drove 7000km but oil service interval light is full state now. Not reduce. I used this x5 e53, 12years at this time and changed engine oil each after drove 5000-7000km, of course reset also.
The service interval light function was no problem before 11month when I reset after change oil. I changed oil three times and three times reset from at that time. But oil change interval light is no change.
I don't know what is problem. Please help me.

If you go over 120% (light turns red on low cluster) it can be difficult to reset. I couldn't get mine to reset I needed dealer to do it. Now I'm careful to reset before the 120% light even if I didn't change the oil yet.

If not too late you can reset from the hidden menu.

The interval light is stay yellow 5step continually although change oil and rest. How to reser from hidden menu?

Google. There is a process with just key and the odometer button to reset the oil light. Won't work on pre 2001. Wife's I have to jumper pins on the 20 pin port under the hood.

Annoying every time.

Mine I can use the foxwell scan tool but I've used the key method before I had that. Just won't work if you get past yellow into red.

The OP has an 05 X5 (unknown model) so don't know which cluster they have. But the 05 can be reset using the instrument cluster reset button or with hardware/software.

I suggest to not reset the SI display until the OIL SERV or INSPECTION warning appears...then when you do THAT oil change...is when you reset the SI display. This prevents unnecessary resets that can throw off how the lights extiniguish. If you change your oil more frequently...it doesn't affect the SI display at all. You are obviously tracking your mileage. And even if you didn't track you're mileage...you can still get an idea of how many miles you've driven (if you drive consistently and consume the same amount of fuel on a similar average). It usually averages out to somewhere between 12k-15k miles for all 5 green lights. So if 3 lights have gone off...you've probably driven approx 6k-7.5k. You can change your oil, and leave the SI display alone. When the OIL SERV or INSPECTION light turns on after the next 6k-7k miles...then you can change your oil again and reset the lights.

The reason for my suggestion to not reset the SI display is...even though you reset the green lights...the original calculation that is coded for your engine continues until the OIL SERV or INSPECTION light illuminates. That's because the SIA III (which is what the e53 X5 operates on) uses FUEL CONSUMPTION...not mileage to calculate the next service. So, when you do an early reset of the lights, the fuel consumption calculation is still going on. This can make the green LEDs go off quickly when you get to the calculated fuel consumption for your engine. (See the SIA III info below for more details...take note of the 3rd bullet and text underlined in ORANGE).

KL R = ignition position 1 (not position 2 nor position 3)

Fuel use is ∞ more useful than distance for determining when to do most engine related changes like oil/air filter etc.
