3 beeps, what’s that mean?

Driving around last few days and I got a random 3 short beeps. Sounds like a timer or something?

Only driven a little since the headgasket.

May have in fact been a timer. I disconnected my battery once for some other work that I was doing and when I reconnected it and drove it for the first time at like 17 minutes in I got three beeps, but mine repeated like 3 times if I recall correctly. Turned out to be some silly timer that was programmed in to it at one time or another that decided to reset. I can’t remember exactly where but I had to go in to timers through the radio menu and shut It off. I think it was a “secondary” timer... or something like that. I looked for the article I used to find it... but (ironically) I couldn’t find it.

I agree with Purplefade that it sounds like a timer. Use your high cluster to check as there's either 2 timers and 1 stopwatch (or vice versa) accessible via the stalk.

its the "30 seconds before the hour" beep. its a BMW sound thats been on the radio function for decades and alerts drivers incase they'd like to switch to the new channel while driving.

None of my other BMW's have done this, but my E53 does. How do I turn it off? It always startles me.

AM.

Which set-up do you have? There are two different set-ups (in the US market)...and it depends if you have the MID or the Nav set-up.

Overboost gave the instructions for the MID set-up...here are the instructions if you have the Nav: (see purple highlighted text)

{the symbol that indicates HOUR MEMO is initiated is circled in red in pic below}

If you have the MID...when the HOUR MEMO is activated...there will be a little symbol (looks like a Xmas tree laying on its side) to the far right of the display that indicates the feature is activated:

And if you had an older BMW with the HIGH OBC...BMW used the same symbol which appeared on the far right...pic below is either from my e34 or e32...and my e30 325e also had this feature:

{high OBC used in the e30/e32/e34 era}

{Hour Memo instructions for the e30/e32/e34 high OBC}

wpoll will become famous soon enough
I've never used this feature but turned it on last night on the way home from work, JFSAG. Dang, it's loud! Even though I was kinda waiting for the sound, it still startled me!!

I've turned it back off....
