B-M-W is on a distinguished road
INPA, NCS, & EDIABAS DIY

Hello everyone. I was lucky enough to stumble across this information and feel every BMW enthusiast should have access to it too. I'm no expert, but I will do my best to help all that are willing.

You can seriously damage your car using some of these programs. If you wish to do so, I can not be held liable

You need a laptop/ect. to start with, and windows XP or 7. Windows 8 & 8.1 will work too, but there have been reported problems.

You need to purchase this cable which will work on models up 2007. I have no affiliation with these sales.
VAG com USB Cable OBD II 2 FTDI KKL 409 1 VW Audi VCDS KTM Triumph Tuneecu BMW | eBay

I also recommend purchasing this 20 pin adapter if you have an older vehicle with the round port under the hood.

Do not install any drivers that may come with them.

Go here to download the cable driver. I use 2.10.00 located near the bottom.
Virtual COM Port Drivers

Here is the link to the custom INPA pack.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?...xIRzhYTms#list

Download everything (1 gig or so I think) and you will end up with: INPA, NCSExpert, WinKFP, Tool32, EDIABAS, NCSDummy, General Installation

INPA - Diagnosis, resetting errors, aligning EWS/CAS, advanced activation of certain car behaviors (ex: turn on your ABS module for bleeding brakes) - MOSTLY SAFE
NCSExpert - Coding (changing internal module settings, and marrying a module to the car - Advanced)
WinKFP - Flashing (you need the Daten files for your car, and you need to load them to WinKFP - Very Advanced)
Tool32 - An advanced tool for similar programming and coding - Advanced
EDIABAS - The virtual server service that the 4 programs above use to connect to your cable. This pack provided has the latest version that still works with BMW 20-pin connection.

Other Softwares:
NCSDummy - A 3rd party helper for NCSExpert coding file interpretation. Not completely necessary. It is for changing settings inside a module mostly. (Ex: Turning off the iDrive warning on start, or changing module behavior, or changing the way the temperature dummy gauge's range on the instrument cluster.)

Enter INPA Folder -> download "INPA_502_Enabled_ReUpdated.zip" (492MB)
Extract all the files.

Instructions on how to install it are inside the zip folder.
(**Newer Windows - Every install file MUST be opened Compatibility -> Windows XP (Service Pack 3), and "As Administrator"**)

Make sure you set up your Environment Variables and follow the included instructions!

One simple mod that is recommended to the 16 pin cable is here. I recomend you do this.

Modifications to make to FTDI VAGCOM cable to work well with INPA (+ all EDIABAS programs)
1. Buy a FTDI FT232RL VAG COM Cable. Do NOT buy the one with the CH340 Chip.
a. Drivers Virtual COM Port Drivers I recommend driver Version 2.10.00 (bottom of page)
to avoid potential problems with some cables.
2. Open cable and solder pin #7 and #8 together. (Optional - if you want to use cable with newer BMWs)
3. Download MProg 3.5 http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Ut...s/MProg3.5.zip
4. Go to Tools Menu -> Read and Parse
a.Invert RI # and DSR # signals to fool the detection of battery and ignition, in order to be able to encode.
b. I / O Controls settings:
#C0 = RXLED
#C1 = TXLED
#C2 = PWRON
#C3 = PWRON
#C4 = SLEEP
c. After making your changes: "Save Template as" (green floppy disk button, or File -> Save as..)
d. Program the cable with new settings: "Program" (Lightning button, or Device -> Program)

Might look a lil funky, but it is EZPZ.......

Heres another mod for INPA which puts the E53 one click away.

Once all this is done you are now ready. Plug in your connector to your PC and obd port or your 20 pin if you have one, turn key to position 2 and open INPA.

I have only begun to explore the full capabilities of this program. Once your runing the program you will find that navigation is pretty simple. If you for instance get an error while trying to access a DME, just try a different one. they are not all clearly called out. You can even calibrate some modules and sensors on the vehicle. You guys with 2 axle air suspension can adjust your ride height very precisely and easily with INPA. I lowered a 4.8 the other night and it was pretty straight forward. In fact, you should see some pics pop up around here of it pretty soon!

Good luck you guys and I'll do my best to assist the ones with problems. If you follow the instructions in the pack, you should be good to go
