Automatic lights questions

Hi, I have a 2001 X5 3.0d

I got the car used about 3 years ago. Its good automatic wipers and Xenon lights but no automatic switch on lights.

I had a hunch that the light switch was replaced because it has the headlight beam adjust dial which does nothing since Xenon lights.

So I found cheap a light switch with the A for automatic lights but when I replaced it and I set it to A automatic it just turns the lights on and when I turn off the key the display says LIGHTS ON and the small bulbs remain lit just as though I have the setting on lights.

Is it doesnt have automatic lights, i tried with VIN decoder and couldnt find it. Or maybe it just need programming the LCM ?
