E53 ECU Tuning
Has anyone DIY tuned/remapped their ECU? Any information on this would be appreciated. I have a '06 4.4i E53. Looking for some modest HP gains via ecu tuning, if at all possible I would like to DIY this or find some inexpensive tuning service. Thanks!

DIY engine tune a modern BMW ECU? Good luck. I tuned on a Megasquirt for a turbo E30 and I could not even imagine tuning for valve tronic or vanos. Let us know what you come up with though.

So, is that you saying it is better to go the "tuning service" route, rather than the DIY route?

That's me saying that I would certainly use a tuning service. With my experience tuning a turbo 4 cylinder I would hate to have to try and tune for all the technology in modern BMW's. I had a hard enough time tuning the idle control valve for smooth idle with AC on, AC off, electric fan on, electric fan off, and all combinations. And at any ambient air temperature. I couldn't imagine trying to tune vanos, valvetronic, fly by wire throttle, etc.
Tuning a 4.4i without other mods isn't going to net very much HP under the best of circumstances. Maybe 5-10hp (WAG). But I'd stick to Dinan, Turner, etc to do my tuning for me.
