Hi there, new to the forum and first post
Bit of background, I have a 2001 4.4, And have had two issues which I’m not sure if they are related or just bad timing. The first was one of the airbags going so the vehicle would sag, then as the car was unlocked the compressor would kick in, didn’t get round to sorting the problem out straight away due to moving house, so the fuse started to blow. Finally got round to changing the air bags and that’s all fine now.
The second issue was the battery going flat over night, there didn’t seem to be any build up to the problem just one morning wouldn’t start and had the issue ever since, checked out the forums and followed the many threads, so have disconnected the FSU and TCU, and the was already an aftermarket kenwood stereo and an aftermarket amp fitted when I got the car, but have gone down by the battery, and made sure the GPS unit and everything bar the ABS module is disconnected, but non of this seems to make a difference.
Supposedly there was a tracker (by the company TRACKER) fitted, although I haven’t been able to find where the hell it was fitted, as I have read ppl having issues with these after a few years.
When I have done the parasitic test on 10A setting I’m getting 0.08 (once in sleep mode) pull fuse 72 (30amp) which then drops to 0.05, no other fuses or relays seem to make any difference.
So to me the reading of 0.08 doesn’t seem that high or enough to drain it over night, or is it enough? Or is the battery just goosed
I’m reluctant to fork out the money for a new battery until I’m sure it’s an issue, as the one fitted is less than a year old.
I’ve charged the battery up to 12.5v and left it for a few days to see if there was any drop with no load over 2 days the battery was at 12.3, then one night in the car it’s down to 10/11v
And the alternator seems to be working fine, get a reading of 14v when the vehicle is running
Any help, any links to a thread I may have missed, where do I go from here? If I had any hair I would be tearing it out!
