TPMS
Can you confirm there is no TPMS sensor inside the wheel and it's actually a sensor in the wheel well that measures revolutions to monitor tire pressure? I’m getting my tires swapped to new rims and there is no sensor. I assumed there was one?

Now is a great time to add TPMS sensors for that future Android radio tho!

the E53 has BMW's legacy RPA TPMS system that does not use sensors. The DSC module monitors individual wheel speed, and when a variance is detected due to an under-inflated tire, the light is illuminated. Any time you air up a tire, you should hit the reset button on the switch console

Ditto the replies above. BMW has two types of tire pressure monitoring systems...a direct (RDC/TPM) and an indirect (RPA/FTM) system. The e53 from 4/04-til end of production...used the indirect RPA/FTM (flat tire monitor) system.
So your 2006 e53 does not use TPM sensors inside the wheels. It uses your ABS/DSC wheel speed sensors to calculate wheel revolution to determine the loss of air in the tire: ![]()
