4.6 no start issue

Wondering if anybody else has had a similar no start issue. I just finished up the timing guides & chains service and I have had the engine started & idling (8 - 10) times this week with no issue other than a pesky exhaust leak from the EGR exhaust tube. This afternoon I started the car again to check if I had the leak stopped (I did) and I was just probing the engine with my mechanics stethoscope checking for any strange noises before a test drive when it started sputtering and acting like it was misfiring. I tapped the throttle and it sputtered and died. When I try to start it now it just cranks an cranks but never lights off. No CEL on the dash and verified with the reader of and codes or codes pending. No dash lights other than ABS light and center triangle; current at 1/4 of a tank of fuel. The car has been starting right up and running like a sewing machine since the service prior to this afternoon. Any thoughts?

Regardless of the fuel gauge.
Add fuel or check fuel pressure at the rail.

Do you hear the fuel pump priming at the start? Most likely a dead fuel pump.

1/4 tank top suspicious of siphon jet failure. Add a couple gallons of gas that will tell you for sure. Then replace the o-ring on the siphon jet.

Assessment was spot on, added 6 gallons and she started right back up. Will get it out of the garage this weekend and fill the tank and see if we get the siphon back.

Siphon won't "come back". When is the last time you drove lower than 1/4 tank?

Use the OBC hidden menu 6 to watch your tank levels. When the left has about 27L the right should have about 1.4L (level ground steady speed).

When the siphon fails the right will drop to zero as the left will maybe have 20L or so. The right should never drop below 1.4 (each car is different yours might be 1.6 but learn the value).

You can use test six as a fuel gauge until you get it fixed.
