+1 on the hood switch - you can unplug it and the alarm will still set fine. And you can either leave it unplugged and fuggedaboutit… or leave it unplugged while a new one is shipped to you from either BMW or AliExpress or eBay etc.

While you are under the hood disconnecting the switch, check your battery voltage and make sure it is NOT draining down over night, or your neighborhood idiot is not using your hood for a resting spot.

Hi all, just a quick update, I disconnected the hood switch and almost a month on, no issues. I am able to lock the doors with the alarm on now

Common fault, that switch. These cheap replacements work...

I just purchased an 05 last week and the next day I parked and locked. 5 minutes later someone was asking who owned the black BMW, the alarm was screaming! I unlocked and left it to diagnose later. It happened again at home and I did a search of solutions. Obviously the hood switch came up and I have unplugged it and no problems since. But....the little plastic button that pushes the plunger down on the hood had disintegrated. So, a new switch won't always solve the problem. I could fabricate something to activate it, but I am just leaving it alone since I can't remember the last time I heard of a hood being forced open to steal a 15+ year old car! I am posting this so people look at the whole scenario and don't just order a new switch and assume it will resolve the problem.

The replacement switches in the link above include the plunger...
